Bruno Gröning - Spiritual Healer

Bruno Gröning (Danzig-Oliva, May 30, 1906 — Paris, January 26, 1959) was a spiritual healer in Germany.

In 1949 the name Bruno Groening became a household word in Germany overnight. Reports about him appeared in the press, in newsreels and on the radio. Events surrounding the "Miracle Doctor" as he soon came to be called, kept the whole country in suspense.

A film was made about him, scientific investigation committees were set up and government authorities at the highest level gave the case of Bruno Groening their attention. The Minister for Social Affairs in North-Rhine-Westphalia had him prosecuted for violating the law for non-medical practitioners, while the Minister President of Bavaria declared that one could not let such an "exceptional occurrence" as Groening founder because of a few paragraphs on paper. The Bavarian Ministry of the Interior labeled his work "a labour of love, free of charge". The case was violently and controversially debated by everyone at all levels of society. Emotions ran high. Clergymen, physicians, journalists, politicians and psychologists: everyone spoke about Groening. Some considered his miraculous healings a gift of grace from a Higher Power, others, charlatanism.

Bruno Groening, born in 1906 in Danzig, was a simple workman who moved to Western Germany as a refugee after World War II. Before the war he had various occupations: carpenter, factory and dock labourer, Post Office worker and electrician. Then, suddenly he was the centre of public attention. The news of his miraculous healings spread all over the world. Tens of thousands made the pilgrimage to the places where he worked.

Influential doctors, church officials, lawyers and his previous fellow workers did their utmost to foil his activities. He was dogged by court cases and healing bans. All efforts to incorporate his work into the existing social structure failed. On the one hand there was the resistance of those in authority in the various branches of the social order, on the other, the greed for financial profit on the part of his fellow workers. When he died in Paris in 1959 the last court trial was well under way. The proceedings were halted and a final verdict never pronounced. But many questions remained unanswered.

Teachings & Legacy

The teachings of Bruno Groening are based on a belief that spiritual forces have influence over incarnate beings and believe this influence to be extremely strong.

Bruno Groening compared a person with a battery. He believed that everyone burns up vital energy. However, new energy to replace it is often insufficiently absorbed. In the same way that an empty battery is incapable of functioning, a body without energy is also unable to fulfill its tasks. He believed the consequences to be the cause of fatigue, exhaustion, nervousness, anxieties and finally, illness.

Bruno Groening’s teachings claim to explin how an individual is able to obtain new energy. To this end, the belief in goodness is as necessary a prerequisite as the will for health. Groening claimed that the human body is constantly surrounded by healing waves which only have to be absorbed. According to Bruno Groening, no illness is incurable, and they believe this to be the reason for their claimed healings that they claim to be medically verified. Followers see these healings as spiritual and therefore independent of Bruno Groening’s physical presence.

Followers believe that in order to absorb this healing energy or healing stream, the person seeking help sits with his or her hands open with their palms upward. His arms and legs are not crossed, as this is believed to block the free flow of the healing stream. Thoughts about illness and personal problems are believed to have an inhibiting effect, while thoughts about something pleasant are believed to be beneficial.

As the healing stream flows through the body followers believe it makes contact with the sick organ and begins its purification effect. This may lead to pain, which is an indication that the body is being cleansed. Since the illness as such is not the will of God, it will gradually be removed. In some cases this can be spontaneous. This is why it is essential that the person concerned does not dwell on his illness but should rather believe that for God, no illness is incurable.

In order to remain healthy, the friends of Bruno Groening tune in to the healing stream every day. A healthy body is the basis for all life in harmony with oneself, other human beings and Nature.

The aim of the teachings of Bruno Groening is to transform a sick person into somebody who is full of the joy of living and free from physical and emotional problems.

Since the end of 1988, a group of followers called the Medical-Science Group of the Bruno Groening Circle of Friends claims to have documented thousands of cases of help and healing from Gröning. A summary of 200 cases from this list are published at the Circle of Friends website.

They claim that this database of healings is a concise case history compiled in accordance with the standard medical system of classification.

Bruno Gröning experienced the culmination of his life work in September 1949 when up to 30,000 people converged in Traberhof outside Rosenheim, Germany, where many claims of healings were reported.
